A group of international students from Morocco and Nigeria embarked on an immersive journey of tea culture in Yuandongtou Town of Yishui County, Linyi City, east China’s Shandong Province on June 23.
Under the guidance of professional tea pickers, they learned and experienced knowledge and skills on picking of tea leaves.
According to UNESCO, traditional tea processing techniques in China are closely associated with geographical location and natural environment, resulting in a distribution range between 18°-37° N and 94°-122° E, where exactly Linyi is located in.
Chinese tea that has delighted and fascinated the world for millennia has finally received top-level global recognition as a shared cultural treasure of mankind. In November 2022, traditional tea processing techniques and their associated social practices in China were added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity held in Rabat, Morocco.
After tea picking, the group of international students visited the museum of tea at Mengshan Longwu Tea Park to learn more about the culture and history of Chinese tea.
At the museum, they soaked up tea art showed by masters of tea art in traditional Chinese Hanfu and appreciated the charm of drinking Chinese tea.
Some of the students actively took part in the practice of calligraphy and weiqi, a Chinese game played with black and white pieces on a board.
In addition to taking delight in tea culture, the group toured the scenic area Cave of Fireflies and Underground Karst, played with butterflies and observed stalactites, enjoyed the fast and furious of rafting, explored the wonder of fireflies on drifting boat and had a romantic and enchanting meet with fireflies.
